The lipid films were re-hydrated in 1 mL PBS buffer (NaCl 150 mM, 1 mM KH 2 PO 4 , 3 mM Na 2 HPO 4 -7xH 2 O, pH 7.4) preheated to 65 C (phase transition temperature of DMPE and DMPC, 50 and 24 C), facilitated by vigorous mixing in the presence of a glass bead (5 mm diameter) for 10 min, resulting in a final lipid concentration of 5-7 mM
