The reason for this sensitivity is unknown, although two general possibilities may be considered, namely the high susceptibility of the brain to oxidative stress due to its high oxygen consumption, and the possibility that GSH may be a neuromodulator or neurotransmitter and may thus be essential for central nervous system activities

While it does not directly alter the fundamental understanding of GSH therapy, it may encourage more targeted investigations into how GSH interacts with specific metabolic pathways and patient subgroups, as well as its effects on NAFLD risk factors and comorbidities
